Resurrection Rolls – Easter Activity With Kids

April 2, 2023 by joybyjess

Looking for something FUN and MEANINGFUL to do on Easter weekend? I shared this last year but since we’re getting ready to make them again this year, I thought I’d share again!

Growing up, my family had a tradition of making resurrection rolls on Easter and I’ve carried it on with my kids. They are DELICIOUS and can help aid in teaching young kids about the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Here’s what you need:

Crescent rolls

Large marshmallows

Melted butter (~2 tbsp)

Cinnamon sugar (~2 tbsp)

Here’s what to do:

Preheat the oven to 375°. While it’s preheating, it’s a great time to read the story of Jesus’s death. We read from the @jesus_storybook_bible (page 302 – The Sun Stops Shining) or you can read John 19.

Roll out and separate the crescent rolls on a cookie sheet (parchment paper makes for easy clean up!).

Take a marshmallow and roll it in the melted butter and then the cinnamon sugar. Explain that the marshmallow represents Jesus’s body and the butter and sugar represent the oils and spices that Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus used, along with strips of linen, to prepare Jesus’s body for burial (a traditional Jewish burial custom).

Wrap the marshmallow up in the crescent roll. Be sure to pinch the roll together tightly (it won’t work if there are any holes in the roll). Explain that this is like the tomb Jesus’s body was placed in.

After you’ve wrapped up each marshmallow, place the tray in the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes (until golden brown). This is a good time to read the story of the Resurrection. We read page 310 (God’s Wonderful Surprise) or you can read John 20:1-20. When finished baking, take the rolls out, let them cool, and break them open. Where’s Jesus’s body??? It’s gone! He is risen!

Save this so you can make these with your family and share with your friends!

I’d love to hear if you do this with your family or if you have other Easter traditions.

Salem Baptist Preschool Holiday Market Prep

November 19, 2022 by joybyjess

Final preparations underway for this weekend’s Holiday market!
My ultimate goal with @joybyjess is to help moms of young kids fulfill Deuteronomy 6:7 “Impress [these commands] on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
While I work on figuring out exactly how I can incorporate my desire to create resources to do that, as well as use my hand lettering, I’m creating artwork to act as a reminder to discuss scripture with your kids.
I find that when I decorate our home and bedrooms with meaningful Bible verses, it’s a reminder to me to help my kids memorize the verses. We practice the verse when we walk into the room or as we’re leaving. We talk about what it means, and remember them when we’re discouraged, fearful, or in need of some gratitude.
I hope when you buy something from me, you can also have that reminder and start a foundation of scripture memory with your kids and family too!

Head-To-Toe Prayer

May 7, 2022 by joybyjess

Happy #nationaldayofprayer!

Do you ever feel like you’re stuck in a prayer rut? Often I find myself praying the same things for the same people over and over. That’s not bad, but I’ve searched for some creative verses to pray over my kids recently. I found the “Head-to-Toe” prayer method where, just like it sounds, you pray over your kid(s) (or anyone) starting with their head and work your way down to their toes.

You don’t need to research or scour the Bible to find verses either (however, it is an awesome activity if you want to). What I normally do is think like this: “Head/Mind… what do I want for their mind?… I want them to know they are always loved by God and me. Heart… what do I want for their heart? I want them to love people and be generous.” etc.

I hope this helps give you and your kids another way to pray. Give it a try on this national day of prayer and let me know how it goes! 🙏🏼
